How to Create the Perfect Games Room

Being asked to spend a significant amount of time at home over the last year and a half has forced me to rethink how I use the space within my home. I know a lot of you are feeling the same way.

For so many of us, the kitchen, bedrooms, and dining room have morphed into multi-functional rooms. They serve as both traditional family spaces and makeshift home offices. Whether or not you’re heading back to work or continuing to work from home, it’s time to carve out some space for a games room to kick back and have fun.

re-imagine square footage

Even a small home can offer up space for a games room. Start by thinking about the rooms in your home that don’t get as much traction.

A spare bedroom would be the perfect setting for a games room. A studio or one bedroom condo can also be transformed to do double duty with a little thought and imagination. Consider these smart additions.

Trade in your bed. Switch up a regular twin, double, queen, or king bed for a sofa bed. Pull it out when you have company staying over. Fold it up when you want to use the room for games, movie night, or to hang out and watch the football game.

Install a tv. Go for a large screen television – yes, even in a small room. A big screen and surround sound will give you an amazing, immersive experience.

Buy the right furniture. The cute and compact FF1 iio refrigerator is larger than a bar fridge and smaller than a standard fridge. It can serve up fresh and cold drinks and snacks while keeping party guests or teenagers out of the kitchen!

re-purpose unused space

Basements often become unruly storage areas for all the stuff we can’t seem to fit anywhere else. Make the space more functional and welcoming with these ideas.

Get more screen time. Install multiple televisions around the basement. Everyone will be able to see the game whether they’re sitting at the bar, playing pool, or filling their plate at the buffet table. Having multiple televisions also means that gamers can play at one set while everyone else watches football on the other.

Light it up. Hang task lighting directly over tables so everyone can clearly see the game board. Use dimmable lights around the television and video gaming areas to create an intimate ambiance. Install brighter lights around the bar to create a safe zone.

Pick the right furniture. Do you have gamers in the house? Buy some ergonomically designed gaming chairs that are wired for sound. Add in comfortable sofas, overstuffed chairs, plush ottomans, stools with supportive backs, a coffee table and some side tables around the big screen television. Make it easy for a crowd of people to sit together and watch the game or a movie.

Raise the bar. Choose one area of the basement that has clear sight lines to the television sets and make that the bar area. The iio VR1 refrigerator is the perfect addition to any basement games room design. Install it beside the bar so anyone can access it easily without bumping into anyone who might be standing behind the bar. I love this fridge’s vintage California styling because it will look perfect in any interior design plan. Plus, it’s cool! The VR1 is slim, comes equipped with a wine rack and bottle-friendly door shelves. It can hold all the food and drink you and your guests might need whether it’s for an intimate gathering or a large party.

Don’t have a spare bedroom or basement that can be transformed into a games room? No problem. Depending on the climate where you live, you could turn all or part of the garage or shed into a fun space. Subscribe to our iio News and we’ll show you how.
